The differences with the curia of Cosenza led him to move to Naples in 1785. He became very active in promoting the interests of the king. Then, he joined many patriotic associations to create the Republic, becoming a suspicious figure. This article provides the main stages of his intellectual and theatrical life.; Nel complesso panorama della cultura italiana sette-ottocentesca Francesco Saverio Salfi occupa un posto di primo piano perché il suo lungo itinerario letterario rappresenta emblematicamente l’inquieta ricerca di molti intellettuali, formatisi nell’ambito di un classicismo di ascendenza illuminista, aperto tuttavia ad istanze romantiche e rivoluzionarie. Attraverso alcuni lavori teatrali del Salfi, si offrirà un’articolata riflessione per scandire le tappe principali di questa parabola culturale.
