The need of cumulability of data  and replicability of resultus in motion event description has led to the construction of a prototype of an annotation tool named Modeg (Motion DEcoding Grid). This classification grid allows to encode the most relevant formal and semantic elements implied in the linguistic expression of motion events. Modeg identifies a set of comparative concepts and their possible values that can be annotated with respect to their expression in four loci (satellite, adnominal, verb, noun) as well as to their distribution in the sentence. The software on which Modeg is tested should be considered not a final product, but rather as a tool developed to demostrate the applicability of the criteria we have identified. The results that can be obtained with Modeg are shown with examples mostly relates to parallel corpora analysis.

The teaching of notion of movement in foreign language classroom can be a particularly difficult didactic task, since object of the research is the study of an extralinguistic notion, such as physical movement. Our contribution is the result of a reflection born from our didactic experience in a university course of Franch linguistics where we reflected on the semantics of verbs in French, focusing on some direct transitive displacement verbs. What motivated the choice of this type of verbs is the identity of the situations they denote when they enter a specific construction, namely the direct transitive costruction where the roels of target and site are assigned to the subject and the direct object respectively. Indeed, even i these vebs describe a displacement, they do not all have a semantics that intrinsically implies a displacement. The study aims, in this regard, to expose our teaching experience in relation to reflection on what determines the semantic interpretation of expression as a displacement event in FLE learning.

In ancient Sicilian, basic spatial relations are encoded by means of prepositional phrases introduced by ‘da’ and ‘di’ (origin), ‘a’, ‘in’ and ‘intra’ (location and direction), ‘per/pir/pri’ (path). This contribution offers a description of these encoding means based on the examination of a corpus of Sicialian texts of the 14th to 16th centuries. The analysis is carried out against a cognitive grammar theoretical background and takes into account the existing studies on spatial relations in the world languages. These studies brought to light some recurring patterns: for instance, ‘direction’ tends to be encoded in a more articlulated way than ‘origin’, while the encoding of ‘path’ seems to crosslinguistically less autonomous than that of the other spatial relations. The data obtained from the scrutiny of the corpus allow us to observe the degree of consistency or deviation of ancient Sicialin from the general crosslinguistic tendencies, as well as the degree of continuity or discontinuity with other coeval Italo-Romance varieties and, in diachrony, with the Sicialian of the newt centuries.

The work presents a corpus-based analysis of the spatial relations in 282 verbless constructions (Cx[ØVP]) of spoken Italian and French. In Cx[ØVP] the traits can be espressed through the lexical semantics of the constituents (NP, PP and AdvP) and syntactical properties of the constructions (existential value and order of the constituents). Based on the analysis of Cx[ØVP], three types of spatial representation werw identified: a) the space of the extra-linguistic world, b) the figurative space, c) the text space or metalinguistic space.
The data of the analysis show that in the two languages spatial relations manifest themselves through the same linguistic tools. Both in French and Italian, spatial relations are expressed through the deixis in the most Cx[ØVP], through the phrases of various lexical categories in almost half of the constructions, and through the construction itself in very few cases. Also regarding to the type of spatial representation, the two languages have points of convergence: most of the Cx[ØVP] denotes an extralinguistic space through words with a referential function, i.e. NP and PP with a lexical head whose referenti s a physical place in the extralinguistic context.
The two languages differ for the type of spatial representation in the monologues. In fact, in monological Italian the majority of Cx[ØVP] denotes an extralinguistic space, in monological French, instead, it expresses relations of a metalinguistic space.
