L’articolo prende in esame la figura di Circe e l'utilizzo degli incantamenta nelle traduzioni e nelle riscritture italiane dell’Odissea nel corso del Cinquecento. In un primo momento, quindi, studia in maniera comparatistica le scelte operate da Dolce, Carafa e Baccelli e, successivamente, l’influenza della tradizione del ‘Gryllus’ di Plutarco per le riscritture di Machiavelli e Gelli.; Circe, a character at the boundary between sorceress and goddess, between femme fatale and caring woman, has inspired literary and artistic representations across the centuries, from archaic Greece to modern times. The paper focuses on the figure of Circe and the use of incantamenta in Italian translations and rewritings of the Odyssey during the 16th century. Initially, it studies, in a comparative way, the choices made by Dolce, Carafa and Baccelli, and then explores the influence of Plutarch’s ‘Gryllus’ on the rewritings of Machiavelli and Gelli.
