Abstract: This paper aims to outline the current trends that are contributing to a rapid development of translation technologies by promoting their wide dissemination among translation professionals and internauts, i.e. cloud computing technologies that offer ubiquitous access to digital content and multi-language translation tools within online collaborative translation environments and crowdsourcing, i.e. the use of a community/a group of people to perform activities normally carried out by translators on a voluntary or paid basis. These two trends are dramatically changing the traditional translation process (the tep model: Translation, Editing, Publishing), giving rise to various forms of collaborative translation aimed at different purposes and based on the use of machine translation and computer-aided translation tools. This paper will also analyse the impact of these emerging trends on the translation process and the practical work of translators as well as possible repercussions in the field of translation teaching.
