Abstract: | This work starts from the definition of the roman family institution as a “sacred island”, that has been defined by Professor Francesco Paolo Casavola. Here we tried to elaborate on the meaning the “ius imaginum” has in the roman society, which is the right to publicly hold the images of one’s own ancestors and the right to have them worn by the entire family group during funeral rites.
