dc.description.abstractNella nota finale del suo “Candido, ovvero un sogno fatto in Sicilia” Leonardo Sciascia riporta le parole di Montesquieu secondo cui da un’opera originale nascono centinaia di opere figlie che si servono della prima «come i geometri delle loro formule». Il “Candido” di Voltaire non sarà infatti padre solo del romanzo di Sciascia ma, negli stessi anni, anche dello spettacolare musical omonimo di Leonard Bernstein. L’articolo indaga le due riletture novecentesche, descrivendo quanto debbano allo spirito ironico, leggero e sarcastico del filosofo francese nel raccontare di uomini «ragionevoli» in un mondo sempre più «irragionevole».it_IT

Indeed, Voltaire’s ‘Candide’ will be not only father of Sciascia’s novel but also, in the same years, the father of the spectacular musical of the same name by Leonard Bernstein. The article investigates the two twentieth-century re-readings, describing how much they owe to ironic, light and sarcastic spirit of the French philosopher in telling about “reasonable” men in an increasingly “unreasonable” world.it_IT
