Marionette in cerca d'autore. Un'Elettra per Pirandello

Abstract

Il motivo del personaggio in cerca d’autore si impone alla riflessione di Pirandello nel momento in cui si palesa la dissociazione fra essere e apparire. In maniera esemplare, è quanto accade nella celebre fantasia del Fu Mattia Pascal sulla tragedia di Oreste nel teatro di marionette. Bloccata l’azione, di fronte al personaggio irresoluto si palesano i fantasmi del palcoscenico. Fra questi una figura femminile, che dalla coeva tragedia di Hofmannsthal si protende nell’opera di Pirandello fino a rivelarsi nella Figliastra dei Sei personaggi.

The motif of the character in search of an author imposes itself on Pirandello’s reflection when the dissociation between being and appearing is revealed. In an exemplary way, this is what happens in the famous fantasy of Fu Mattia Pascal on the tragedy of Orestes in the puppet theater. Once the action is blocked, the ghosts of the stage are revealed in front of the irresolute character. Among these is a female figure, who from the contemporary tragedy of Hofmannsthal extends into the work of Pirandello to reveal herself, finally, in the Stepdaughter of the Six Characters.
