<title>Questioni d’onore nell’epica greca: il duello tra Neottolemo ed Euripilo in ‘Posthomerica’ 8</title>

<description>Questioni d’onore nell’epica greca: il duello tra Neottolemo ed Euripilo in ‘Posthomerica’ 8
Tasselli, Jessica
Il contributo si concentra sulle caratteristiche più iconiche della&#13;
rappresentazione del duello e dell’eroismo tra Omero e Quinto Smirneo.&#13;
I Posthomerica sono l’unico poema epico esteso che ci è pervenuto dopo&#13;
Apollonio Rodio e prima di Nonno di Panopoli; per questo motivo, e per il&#13;
loro rapporto con Omero (evidente sin dal titolo), testimoniano l’evoluzione&#13;
del genere e il permanere delle istanze dell’epica tradizionale anche a secoli&#13;
di distanza dalla composizione dei poemi omerici. Il duello di Euripilo e&#13;
Neottolemo viene confrontato con alcuni episodi dell’Iliade, con l’obiettivo&#13;
di individuare le riprese e le variazioni del modello omerico operate da Quinto&#13;
nella rappresentazione della monomachia e delle questioni d’onore dei due&#13;
eroi. L’analisi è funzionale a dimostrare come il ritratto di Neottolemo,&#13;
campione ideale dei Posthomerica, coniughi caratteristiche tradizionali dei&#13;
duellanti omerici con istanze nuove e scelte originali di Quinto Smirneo.; This study focuses on the most iconic features of the representation&#13;
of duels and heroism in Homer and Quintus of Smyrna. The Posthomerica is&#13;
the only long poem to survive from the period between Apollonius of Rhodes&#13;
and Nonnus of Panopolis. For this reason, and due to its relationship with&#13;
Homer, it provides valuable insight into the evolution of the epic genre&#13;
and the persistence of traditional epic themes even centuries after the&#13;
composition of the Homeric poems. I compare the duel between Eurypylus&#13;
and Neoptolemus with selected episodes from the Iliad, aiming to identify&#13;
both the adaptations and variations of the Homeric model introduced by&#13;
Quintus in his depiction of single combat and the heroes’ concerns with&#13;
honour. This analysis demonstrates how the portrayal of Neoptolemus, the&#13;
ideal champion of the Posthomerica, merges traditional features of Homeric&#13;
duellists with new elements and original choices made by Quintus of Smyrna.

<title>Agli albori di Roma: duelli “nazionali” tra epica e storiografia (Enea e Turno, Orazi e Curiazi)</title>
<link>http://elea.unisa.it/xmlui/handle/10556/9756</link>
<description>Agli albori di Roma: duelli “nazionali” tra epica e storiografia (Enea e Turno, Orazi e Curiazi)
Cannizzaro, Francesco
Dopo un breve cenno sulla percezione del duello nel mondo romano,&#13;
il saggio verte su due episodi centrali nella mitologia che Roma ha costruito&#13;
riguardo alle proprie origini: il duello tra Enea e Turno (Verg. Aen. 12) e tra&#13;
gli Orazi e i Curiazi (Liv. 1.23-26.1). Entrambi i duelli hanno conseguenze&#13;
decisive per i popoli che si combattono tramite i loro campioni: forte, dunque,&#13;
è il loro valore politico, in rapporto sia al dominio sul Lazio sia, in prospettiva,&#13;
all’imperium universale di Roma. In secondo luogo, i popoli coinvolti nei&#13;
due episodi sono affini e persino imparentati, nonostante i tentativi di alcuni&#13;
personaggi, specie nella narrazione virgiliana, di evidenziare tra loro una&#13;
presunta incompatibilità etnica: i due duelli considerati sono, dunque, il&#13;
culmine di una sorta di guerra civile tra Troiani e Italici – qualunque sia&#13;
l’accezione etnica da attribuire a questa denominazione – e tra gli abitanti&#13;
di Roma e di Alba Longa. Infine, i duelli si risolvono nell’unificazione dei&#13;
popoli in lotta: da essi, pur con alcune ambiguità specie nel testo virgiliano,&#13;
nascerà un unico grande popolo, destinato a esercitare, nell’età di Augusto, il&#13;
dominio sull’intero Mediterraneo.; After a brief introduction on the perception of the duel in the Roman&#13;
world, this paper focuses on two pivotal episodes in the mythology that Rome&#13;
has created about its own origins: the duel between Aeneas and Turnus&#13;
(Verg. Aen. 12) and the fight between the Horatii and the Curiatii (Liv. 1.23-&#13;
26.1). Both duels have a strong political dimension due to the tremendous&#13;
effects they have in relation to the imperium on the Latium vetus and, in&#13;
perspective, on the whole world. Secondly, the peoples whose campions&#13;
engage in duelling are close to each other and even cognate, notwithstanding&#13;
the attempts by some characters (especially in Virgil’s Aeneid) to highlight&#13;
ethnical incompatibilities between them: the duels are, then, the peak of a sort&#13;
of civil war between Trojans and Italians – whichever ethnical implication is&#13;
to be assigned to this term – in the Aeneid, and between inhabitants of Rome and Alba Longa in Livy’s narration. Eventually, both duels end up with the&#13;
unification of the two involved peoples: a new and bigger people will be born&#13;
out of them, albeit with some ambiguities especially in Virgil’s text, destined&#13;
to wield power on the whole Mediterranean area in Augustus’ age.

<description>Tradizione e innovazioni narrative del “conbat” nei romanzi medievali in lingua d’oc
Galano, Sabrina
Il saggio si propone di analizzare gli aspetti narratologici innovativi&#13;
proposti nella descrizione della dei conbats nei romanzi in lingua d’oc.&#13;
Particolare attenzione è dedicata alla figura del cavaliere e alla rappresentazione&#13;
dei combattimenti che, nei testi analizzati, assume funzioni e significati diversi&#13;
rispetto alle fonti oitaniche da cui gli autori, per lo più anonimi, prendono&#13;
ispirazione, adeguando le loro narrazioni ad un pubblico nuovo ed eterogeneo.; The essay aims to analyse the innovative narratological aspects&#13;
proposed in the description of conbats in Languedoc novels. Particular attention&#13;
is devoted to the figure of the knight and the representation of the fights that,&#13;
in the texts analysed, assume different functions and meanings compared to&#13;
the Oitanic sources from which the authors, mostly anonymous, take their&#13;
inspiration, adapting their narratives to a new and heterogeneous audience.
