Esplorando un novero esemplificativo di tali situazioni romanzesche, il saggio ipotizza che in realtà lo scrittore palermitano – oltre all’attraversamento del grande modello dumasiano – inserisca all’interno della narrazione lacerti di una più profonda riflessione politico-sociale attorno al tema della giustizia, esemplata nell’opposizione tra una sua forma “clandestina” e una “cavalleresca”.; Honour and justice: these are the reasons that trigger clashes and duels within Luigi Natoli’s most famous novel, I Beati Paoli, serialized in the pages of the «Giornale di Sicilia» between 1909 and 1910. Exploring an illustrative list of such fictional situations, the article hypothesizes that the Palermitan writer – in addition to crossing the great dumasian model – inserts within the narrative fragments of an political reflection around the theme of justice, exemplified by the opposition between a “clandestine” and a “knightly” form of justice. Dopo un’introduzione in cui si prendono in considerazione alcuni elementi di contiguità con la letteratura tedesca, vi sarà una comparazione inerente alla rappresentazione di due differenti tipologie di duello, entrambe di origine tedesca: la Mensur dei nazisti nel romanzo 1934 di Moravia e il duello (di Dio) – ordalia, nella fattispecie – nel racconto omonimo di Kleist.; The essay presents an analysis of Moravia’s relationship with the German-language philosophical, artistic, and literary tradition, particularly with Heinrich von Kleist (1777-1811). After an introduction in which some elements of continuity with German literature are considered, there will be a comparison focusing on the representation of two different types of duel, both of German origin: the Mensur of the Nazis in Moravia’s novel 1934, and the trial by combat – specifically the ordeal – in Kleist’s short story of the same name. I duellanti, infatti, racconta la vicenda di due ufficiali degli ussari francesi, che si sfidano lungo l’arco dei quindici anni delle guerre napoleoniche, dal Consolato e Waterloo. Dopo alcune osservazioni preliminari sul film, il saggio passa poi ad affrontare il tema del duello e le sequenze di combattimento, usando il problema della simulazione della tecnica schermistica ottocentesca come occasione per ragionare sulla natura ambigua e contraddittoria del cinema storico.; The essay analyzes Ridley Scott’s The Duellists (1977) as a historical film focusing on the dueling scenes, which represent a real continuous bass that runs through the entire film. The Duellists tells the story of two French hussar officers, who challenge each other over the fifteen-year span of the Napoleonic Wars, from the Consulate to Waterloo. After some preliminary remarks on the film, the essay then addresses dueling and combat sequences, using the problem of simulating nineteenth-century fencing technique as an opportunity to reason about the ambiguous and contradictory nature of historical cinema. Composto da un racconto e da due romanzi, il ciclo viene proposto come una narrazione che sviluppa coerentemente il tema della presa di coscienza politica da parte del protagonista. La vicenda è costellata di riferimenti ai luoghi comuni del genere western, tra cui il duello finale: la seconda parte dell’articolo è dedicata infatti all’analisi dei tre duelli descritti nel corso della saga.; This paper focuses on the analysis of Valerio Evangelisti’s Pantera (or Metal) series, a literary pastiche that can be placed in the weird western genre. Consisting of a short story and two novels, the series is proposed as a narrative that consistently develops the theme of the protagonist’s political awareness. The story is studded with references to the commonplaces of the western genre, including the final duel: the second part of the article is in fact dedicated to the analysis of the three duels described in the course of the saga.
