dc.description.abstractPreliminary Thoughts about the Translation Strategies in Polish Translations of Ancient Greek Tragedies The main objective of the article is to outline the (changing) strategies used by Polish translators when rendering ancient Greek tragedies into Polish. The tradition of Polish translations of these pieces started in the 19th century. Since then there are over one hundred translations made by dozen of Polish translators. But since then many attitudes have changed: towards writing (and translating) poetry, towards drama. The knowledge about ancient Greek theatre and ancient playwrights as well as the ways of performing theatre plays also have changed. Briefly saying, many cultural, literary, theatrical as well as social and historical circumstances have changed which are of great importance and have their relevant impact on any translatorit_IT
