Da Vento a Tindari (1930) a Nell’isola (1966): la Sicilia di Quasimodo

Abstract

Nel presente saggio si passa in rassegna l’immagine della Sicilia nella poesia di Salvatore Quasimodo. La prima tappa è costituita dalla celeberrima Vento a Tindari, compresa in Acque e terre (1930), dove l’isola che si affaccia improvvisamente alla memoria del poeta diventa una sorta di Eden che si contrappone alla infelicità del presente. Dopo aver seguito il tema della Sicilia nell’intero arco della produzione di Quasimodo, si giunge all’ultima raccolta, Dare e avere (1966), dove figura Nell’isola che rappresenta in un certo senso la conclusione della riflessione del poeta sulla storia millenaria della Sicilia e al tempo stesso sulla sua personale vicenda esistenziale, sempre indissolubilmente intrecciata alla terra d’origine.

In this paper we review the image of Sicily in the poetry of Salvatore Quasimodo. The first stage consists of the famous Vento a Tindari, included in Ac que e terre (1930), where the island that suddenly appears in the poet's memory becomes a sort of Eden that contrasts with the unhappiness of the present. After having followed the theme of Sicily throughout Quasimodo's production, we reach the last collection, Dare e avere (1966), where Nell'isola appears which represents in a certain sense the conclusion of the poet's reflection on millenary history of Sicily and at the same time on his personal existential story, always inextricably intertwined with his land of origin.
