The present study focuses on the role of daimons in the trilogy His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, by showing some possible links to the traditional representations of the “double” in literature. Within Pullman’s cosmogony (a real “dark matter” for a critical analysis beyond genre boundaries) the daimon-character relationship highlights – even plastically and balancing between a literary metaphor and a narrative projection of the Junghian soul – the disentanglement of the stablished rigidity of characters which results from an ideological and cultural pattern that the subversive power of fantasy is able to put into question.it_IT
