Dal privato allo spazio pubblico. Le fonti sulla deportazione di rom e sinti come percorso di cittadinanza e riconoscimento
Abstract
On 18 January 2023, the first stumbling block for the Roma and Sinti
in Italy was laid in Trieste, through stages that reactivated the political participation of
young Roma and Sinti, starting from the search for historical sources that were transformed into elements of rediscovering one’s collective identity. The first part of the contribution addresses the rediscovery of the history of the extermination of the Roma and Sinti
as a European public memory and the recent laying of the stumbling block (Stolpersteine)
in Italy. The second part of the essay analyzes the participatory installation which saw
the involvement of various Roma and Sinti groups in collaboration with UGEI (Union of
Young Jews of Italy) as an experience of inclusion activated through narration historical
narrative space shared between majority and minorities. It represented a tool for building
an inclusive, multicultural and democratic citizenship.
