Thomas Cauvin describes the complexity of Public History of Education.
This excellent text book anticipates where the field is headed internationally: cultural
heritage, people’s history, media, exposed past, digital public history, uses of the past,
teaching, civic engagement, etc., in connection between theory and practice, so we intend
to analyze a case study. In Spain, an example of Public History of Education are local and
provincial study centers. In the second half of the 1940s, the state promoted the creation
of local study centers and Houses of Culture in the capitals of Spanish provinces. Within
the CSIC, a new board was launched, named after José María Quadrado, and twenty-one
centers were organized in it in a first phase, mostly financed by the provincial councils.
