Ercole Tasso, Comino Ventura e la lettera dedicatoria

Abstract

Il saggio, dopo aver ripercorso il rapporto tra Ercole Tasso e Comino Ventura, analizza alcune delle dedicatorie firmate da Tasso per mettere a fuoco le modalità e i fini con i quali, sia lo scrittore che il tipografo, si servirono della dedica come strumento di autopromozione. Dalle lettere emergono chiaramente un sapiente uso dei topoi della dedicatoria, una funzionale rievocazione dei legami di Ercole con la famiglia Tasso e la capacità di costruire, attraverso la dedica delle opere, un’ampia rete culturale. In particolare, l’analisi delle dedicatorie indirizzate a Benedetto Giustiniani dimostra la capacità di Tasso di legarsi a personaggi illustri in grado di garantire protezione alle proprie opere.

The essay, after tracing the relationship between Ercole Tasso and Comino Ventura, analyses some of the dedicatory letters signed by Tasso to focus on the methods and purposes with which both the writer and the printer used the dedication as a means of self-promotion. A skilful use of the topoi of the dedicatory, a functional evocation of Ercole’s ties with the Tasso family and the ability to build an extensive cultural network through the dedication of works emerge from the letters. In particular, the analysis of the dedications addressed to Benedetto Giustiniani demonstrates Tasso’s ability to bind himself to illustrious personages capable of guaranteeing protection for his works.
