Abstract: The manuscript containing the Romanzo di Francia, also known as the Libro di Fioravante, belongs to the type of manuscript whose interest goes beyond the work itself, since its physical aspect, the main features of the text, the graphic as well as linguistic and stylistic characteristics of the anonymous scribe or author of the text allow the reader toview a little-known and little-documented socio-cultural context of popular culture in fourteenth-century Naples. This work, which I would describe as an interesting example of variation in the literary canon, is transmitted by a single manuscript held at the Bibliothèque nationale de France and catalogued as Ital. 859
