Abstract: | The objective of this research article is to illustrate how the concept of Na-tion was defined by reference to the historical changes which took place in the Hispanic context between the 18th and the 19th centuries, and which were brought about by the ideologies of liberalism and national-ism. These ideologies became the fundamental theoretical bases of stable political systems in western societies in the modern era. With a qualita-tive methodology, the article analyses how Spanish traditionalist authors sought to correct some aspects of the modern concept of Nation, which is theoretical and dogmatic, giving rise to a concept of Nation which is historical and ontological, and more like the understanding of the politi-cal society of classical humanism. The work highlights the consequences of the modern concept of Nation in the contemporary history of Spain, in particular the nationalism. |
