Abstract: The author reads Mirella Napodano's novel as a singular case of writing in autobiographical terms that goes beyond the blurred boundaries of the genre to establish itself as an experiential path for the search for the self. The researcher identifies in the "novel", built around the rich paternal correspondence, the wonderful script of a family story during the war years, to the point of capturing in the plot of the book the intersection of two different writing registers: the first consists of the letters, with the direct testimony of the father Carmine, the other given by the 'narration' of the author, with large descriptive inserts, placed in commentary on the letters, which return, between history, traditions and folklore, the cross-section of an era.
