Abstract: The essay briefly examines the opportunities and the problems that the critical digital edition of historical sources presents, as well as its wider implications in the Humanities. The purpose is to highlight the technological innovations available for digital editions, and the changes that these tools have brought to the methodology of all the disciplines involved in the edition of a source and to the figure of the scholar itself.
