Sweeney Todd: dal romanzo al film il percorso di un’antica storia attuale

Abstract

La leggenda di Sweeney Todd, giunta sino ai giorni nostri dal XVIII secolo, continua ad affascinare generazioni di lettori, scrittori, attori e registi per via delle sue tematiche sempre attuali, riuscendo ad evocare sensazioni ed emozioni profonde, comuni agli uomini di tutte le epoche. L’intento di questo contributo è quello di tratteggiare un’analisi drammaturgia delle principali opere riguardanti il barbiere di Fleet Street con una particolare attenzione alle incidenze provenienti dalle correnti letterarie e teatrali, evidenziando legami ed influenze con il tessuto culturale, storico e sociale degli ultimi due secoli.

The legend of Sweeney Todd, known since XVIII century, nowadays represents a fascinating story for readers, writers, actors and directors due to its current issues. This myth is able to awake human’s deepest feelings and sensations, common to people of all ages and all standards. In this script I define a dramaturgical analysis about the main Fleet Street Barber’s works, giving particular attention to literary and theatrical currents. Furthermore, I focus on bonds and influences between Sweeney Todd and cultural, historical and social traits of the last two centuries.
