Abstract: The will to face the issue of small towns in inland areas comes from the awareness of the importance of these realities for the sustainable development of territories. There is a growing need to establish valorization strategies with a broad and multi-disciplinary approach, covering the built heritage matters, but also social, cultural, environmental and economic problems. Moreover, it is fundamental to consider or-ganic actions that go beyond punctual operations on a single building. In this regard, it may be useful to set up operational tools in order to support local governments and stakeholders in choosing the most effective interventions to be taken in these scopes. The small realities are extremely complex and characterized by a vast material and immaterial heritage difficult to understand, manage and protect. Although there are many researches, studies and bibliographical references on the subject, there is no investigation in the literature that includes the use of multi-criteria analysis models for the selection of the most valid enhancement actions to be carried out in small municipalities, as well as for the specific detection of the weaknesses of the strategies already implemented. In view of these considerations, the research goal is the valorization of small towns to be pursued through the development of a multi-criteria tool aimed at directing the decision-maker – local government and/or stakeholders – in the evaluation of the efficacy of the actions carried out. Such a tool can help in quickly understanding the critical issues and promote targeted improvements for the right regeneration and en-hancement of the place. The aforementioned purpose is feasible because multi-criteria models allow making convenience judgments about specific interventions based on multiple factors. In fact, the multi-criteria analysis (MCDA) supports the decision-maker in solving complex problems that pose heterogeneous and conflicting issues. This leads to com-promise solutions that balance the pursuit of established goals with a view to max-imizing collective well-being and environmental protection. In light of the topic’s specificity, due to the coexistence of multiple factors, it was decided to examine the subject in the following areas: architectural-landscape, eco-nomic, sociological, environmental...
