Boris Vian’s novel L’Écume des jours stands as a ‘palimpsest work’ for a sociological and intermedial study. Through a comparative analysis of the literary text (1947), the last film adaptation (2013) and the graphic novel (2020), it is indeed possible to highlight one of the main themes around which the plot revolves, i.e., work and the critique of industrial civilisation. The representation of the various declinations of the theme in the three languages under examination will be the Leitmotiv of this essay, which intends, finally, to propose an epistemological and theoretical-critical reflection on ‘industrial literature’ between Italy and France.
