‘Nuove stanze’ di Eugenio Montale: partita a scacchi con la Morte

Abstract

L’articolo si propone di mostrare che, tramite Clizia, e sullo sfondo della guerra che incombe sull’umanità, nelle Nuove Stanze il poeta sta parlando alla Morte. Essa appare in tutta la sua drammaticità, ma al tempo stesso come ultima speranza per ricondurre gli uomini alla ragione e placare l’odio. Con le strofe di Nuove Stanze, la figura femminile ritorna all’archetipo, portando dentro di sé sia il mistero della vita che quello della morte.

The article aims to show that, through Clizia, and with the war looming over humanity, in the Nuove Stanze the poet is speaking to Death. She appears in all its drama, but at the same time she reveals itself as the last hope to lead men back to reason and appease hatred. With the Nuove Stanze, the female figure returns to the archetype, carrying within herself both the mystery of life and that of death.
