Abstract:

Nelle seconda delle Lezioni americane, dedicata al tema della rapidità, Calvino mette in evidenza la funzione narrativa che la presenza di un oggetto “magico” fornisce al racconto. La comparsa di un oggetto, in altri termini, guida la narrazione e fornisce a essa un ritmo fondamentale affinché esista e si sviluppi. Questo espediente era stato già utilizzato, qualche anno prima, da Calvino stesso per il suo Se una notte d’inverno un viaggiatore, i cui ingranaggi sono attivati proprio dall’oggetto letterario per eccellenza: il libro, nella sua materialità, che tesse i fili dell’opera e ne detta il ritmo narrativo. In the second of his Lezioni americane, dedicated to the theme of rapidity, Calvino underlines the narrative function that a “magic” object gives to the storytelling. The epiphany of an object, in other terms, leads the narration and gives to it a fundamental rythm for it to exist and develop. This expedient has already been used, some years before, by the same Calvino in Se una notte d’inverno un viaggiatore, whose mechanisms are activated by the quintessential literary object: the book, in its materiality, that weaves the threads of the work and dictates the narrative rhythm.
