Abstract: | A somewhat neglected theme in the 1980s-1990s, variation is now enjoying renewed interest. The aim of this article is to address variation and plurilingualism in contemporary French, which are more often than not confined to the margins of French as a Foreign Language (henceforth fle) courses, using cinema, and in particular so-called “banlieue-films”. The first aim is to show that the interactions between young urbanites portrayed in the films selected provide an interesting observatory to enable Italian learners of French, from A2 level upwards, to confront and familiarise themselves with certain aspects of spontane- ous oral communication, of ‘colloquial’ French, in a context of communicative proximity and connivan- ce, around everyday themes, but also to come into contact with the world of their French peers through “youth languages”. |
