Abstract: In cognitive studies, metaphor is seen as a conceptual interaction between two conceptual domains (Lakoff, Johnson, 1985; Kövecses, 2010). From the idea of the transfer of a concept into a foreign domain, it is possible to identify the discourse dynamics underlying the continuum between conflict and coherence which creates two main groups of metaphors: coherent and conflictual metaphors (Prandi, 2002; 2010; 2021). The aim of this research is to contribute to the diachronic study of metaphors and the description of metaphorical behaviour in the lexicon of astrophysics related to black holes in French and Italian. The methodology is based on data from a comparable corpus in French and Italian focused on popular science journals in the field of astrophysics that were published from 1990 to 2020. The metaphors detected will be analysed according to classification and evolution criteria, such as semantic-referential conflict and evolution towards coherence.
