Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to elucidate a Public History of Education project initiated at the University of Foggia whose aim is to preserve the historical educational heritage of which the city is a precious custodian. Specifically, the project’s object of investigation is the Addolorata Institute elementary school whose history has been reconstructed through the memories of former pupils who attended it. A process of coconstruction of historical-educational knowledge was, thus, initiated, with the historian, former pupils and the entire citizenship as protagonists. The constant dialogue with the territory was the founding element of a historical-educational research which was carried out within a dialogical and fully Public dimension.
