Abstract: This article analyzes the use of school archives to investigate a specific case: the promulgation of racial laws by the fascist regime in 1938. They affected citizens classified as “of the Jewish race,” particularly teachers and students. In recent years, and more since the 80th anniversary of the racist laws, many teachers have produced research or public returns studying the sources contained in school archives. For this reason, the contribution aims to provide a survey of the historical-scholarly sources contained in school archives; the different heuristic possibilities; the didactical practices used by teachers to lead these researches; a reflection on the historiographical issues that have influenced this strand of studies, with particular attention to the connection with Holocaust Remembrance Day; and, in conclusion, the sources yet to be explored. These issues provide an opportunity to observe good teaching practices; in addiction, reflect on old and new research perspectives.
