Abstract: | Plant blindness (Wandersee, Schussler, 1999) refers to the inability to see plants in the surrounding environment and, consequently, the inability to recognize and appreciate their fundamental role in the biosphere and human activities. The “weeds” (invisible at best and annoying when known) and the herbaria of Giuseppina Pizzigoni’s Rinnovata preserved at the MuSEd are the protagonists of the project “The schools of Rome at the MuSEd” conceived in collaboration with the School, Training and Work Department of the Municipality of Rome. During the meeting with teachers and students, aimed at raising awareness of the phenomenon of plant blindness, after having observed some of the most significant materials of the Rinnovata, we worked on the creation of a herbarium using flowers and plants widespread in urban contexts. Past experiences have given rise to interesting reflections for the planning of educational activities in different school levels, from nursery school to high school. |
