Le «scientifiche armonie» di Mercadante: gli Orazi e Curiazi tra Napoli e Roma

Abstract

Il presente contributo intende ricostruire la fortuna riscossa tra Napoli e Roma dagli Orazi e Curiazi composta nel 1846 da Saverio Mercadante su libretto di Salvadore Cammarano. Per comprendere le motivazioni che informano i differenti giudizi, apertamente contrastanti, riferiti alla prima al San Carlo del 1846 e alla replica avvenuta all’Argentina nel 1847, il contributo analizza le fonti, dai libretti alle partiture, per poi comparare le diverse recensioni apparse sui periodici coevi.

This paper aims to reconstruct the different success achieved between Naples and Rome by Orazi e Curiazi composed in 1846 by Saverio Mercadante and Salvadore Cammarano. To understand the motivations that inform the different, openly conflicting opinions referring to the premiere at the San Carlo in 1846 and the repeat performance at the Argentina in 1847, the paper analyzes the sources, from the librettos to the scores and subsequently compares the different reviews, that appeared in the periodicals contemporary.
