Abstract

Il contributo indaga la presenza del tema magico all’interno delle classificazioni dei peccati offerte dai trattati sui vizi e le virtù, un genere di particolare successo all’indomani del IV Concilio Lateranense, quando andava definendosi anche il dibattito teologico sulla liceità delle arti magiche. L’analisi si concentra sulla Summa peraldiana, senza dimenticare altri testi rappresentativi, e tenta di chiarire se queste trattazioni, circolanti al tempo di Dante, abbiano influenzato il modo in cui le «magiche frode» vengono presentate nel poema.

The article examines the presence of the magic in the classifications of sins found in treatises on vices and virtues. This genre became very popular after the Fourth Lateran Council, in the same years in which the theological debate on the legitimacy of magical arts began to take shape. The analysis focuses on Peraldus’ Summa, while also considering other representative texts. It then seeks to clarify whether these treatises, which circulated in Dante’s time, influenced how the «magiche frode» are presented in the poem.
