Migraciones: palabras y frames. Una comparación entre Italia y Argentina
Abstract
This research article aims to illustrate through a qualitative methodology a
comparison between words and media frames of two newspapers: one for
Italy and one for Argentina. The purpose is to highlight how the words and
the frames can illustrate how the media, in some cases, are instruments able
to spread among the public stereotypes and attitudes that can in turn lead
to a narrowing and / or opening of relations towards the Other. News about
migrants can be a few examples through which the public opinion constructs a specific image of the Other; in addition, using words such as illegal
immigrant, refugee, may help in reinforcing an image able to reduce sociocultural distances – or, conversely, to expand them. The public opinion will
tend to juxtapose their own frames of interpretation to those proposed by
the media, re-building a specific kind of reality filtered by the media.
