«Una zingara assorta in sogno»: Anna Maria Ortese viaggiatrice

Abstract

Il presente contributo si propone di indagare l’attività di Anna Maria Ortese giornalista, raccolta da Luca Clerici in La lente scura (Adelphi, 2004). Le collaborazioni della scrittrice con i giornali hanno dato alla luce dei reportage, tra Russia, Sicilia, Palermo, Liguria, Parigi, spesso a bordo di un treno. Ciò che si osserva, però, non è mai riportato letteralmente: è lo sguardo di Ortese a modellare la realtà, a filtrarla. Ortese osserva il paesaggio, ma il suo sguardo procede a tocchi, gli itinerari subiscono interruzioni e le descrizioni topografiche si fondano su sinestesie, giochi di luce e sfumature: sono gli occhi della scrittrice a selezionare, a ridurre metonimicamente la realtà. La letteratura odeporica può, dunque, avere un valore documentale e il viaggio è anche della scrittura.

This contribution aims to explore the journalistic work of Anna Maria Ortese, collected by Luca Clerici in La lente scura (Adelphi, 2004). The writer's collaborations with newspapers gave rise to a se ries of reports spanning Russia, Sicily, Palermo, Liguria, and Paris, often written while traveling by train. However, what Ortese observes is never reported literally: it is her gaze that shapes and filters reality. Ortese observes the landscape, but her vision advances in touches; itineraries are interrupted, and topographical descriptions are based on synesthesia, plays of light, and nuances. It is the writer’s eyes that select and metonymically reduce reality. Travel literature, therefore, can have documentary value, and the journey extends to the realm of writing itself.
