Abstract

En este artículo se presentan y analizan las prosas breves de la escritora madrileña Mercedes Ballesteros Gaibrois (1913-1995) recogidas en volúmenes misceláneos: Así es la vida (1953), Este mundo (1955), El personal (1975) y Pasaron por aquí (1985). El objetivo es contribuir al conocimiento de la obra de una valiosa autora todavía no suficientemente estudiada, en especial en lo que se refiere a su vertiente narrativa. Los cuatro volúmenes en examen abarcan un dilatado periodo temporal, de más de treinta años, que nos permitirá analizar sus constantes y cambios, desde su inicial vertiente humorística, con la que se dio a conocer en la revista La Codorniz, hasta sus bellas prosas de madurez.

This article presents and analyzes the short prose works of Madrid-born writer Mercedes Ballesteros Gaibrois (1913-1995), compiled in the miscellaneous volumes: Así es la vida (1953), Este mundo (1955), El personal (1975), and Pasaron por aquí (1985). The aim is to contribute to a deeper understanding of the work of this valuable yet understudied author, especially regarding her narrative production. The four volumes under review cover a broad time span of more than thirty years, allowing for an analysis of both constants and changes in her writing, from her initial humorous style, with which she gained recognition in the magazine La Codorniz, to the refined prose of her maturity.
