| it_IT |
| dc.description.abstract | The objective language of mathematics, adopted by Galileo along with the experimental method to describe the laws of nature, clashes with the difficulties of realizing the experiments used to support the hypotheses, because the experiments can hide systematic errors that are difficult to identify. In astrophysics, the situation is complicated by the impossibility of studying celestial objects in a laboratory. Celestial objects are simulated with numerical experiments that become more and more sophisticated as the computational power increases. In cosmology, the illusory realistic appearence of the synthetic universes and the confidence that the theory of General Relativity is correct have generated a dangerous bias against alternative theories of gravity that aim to solve the evident discrepancies, sometimes even predicted by these alternative theories, between the standard model of the Universe and the observational data. The discrepancies are typically ascribed to systematic errors yet to pinpoint, when the discrepancies are not simply ignored. More serious is the general inability of the standard model to make predictions and thus the impossibility of falsifying the model itself. The bias goes beyond that and, both in its language and in its method, it deems the falsifiability as an obsolete tool, thus depriving Galileo’s experimental approach of its power and threatining to return to a metaphisical view of cosmology. | it_IT |
