Abstract

Deprived of any decision-making faculty both in the religious context and familiar environment, Indo-European women seem to be reduced to mere devices of human reproduction. The very idea of the power, considered as the ability of nourishing and sustaining life, is definitively replaced by the conception of power as a tool of dominance and harassment. This image also seems to affect the institute of Roman manus maritalis. Investigations on the Sanniti, Sabini, Volsci and Latini peoples wouldn’t seem to break down this 'condition'.
