La voce dei maestri: le Conferenze magistrali nella Basilicata tra Otto e Novecento

Abstract

The study proposes the analysis of specific sources aimed at enhancing some particular aspects concerning the teaching training related to Conferenze magistrali. The inaugural speeches by Luigi Stocchi and Michele Bergamasco – which respectively open the session of 1867 in Potenza and 1912 in Melfi – and the reports by the Regio Ispettore Dionigio Verasani in 1914 and that by Costantino Zappella in 1912 are documentary traces left in the collective memory of the school. These traces could stimulate the community’s interest – in line with the objectives of Public History – in less-known aspects of the evolution of the teaching profession and encourage an understanding of the biographical profiles that, more than others, have contributed to the spread of education in Basilicata region between the eighteenth and Nineteenth centuries.
