Ubi iura deique? Saggio di commento a Stat. Theb. 11, 315-519

Abstract

The project arose from the need to update the commentary on the XI book of the Thebaid, edited by Paola Venini in 1970, in the light of the new trends of Statian studies. The section of the book (vv. 315-579) has a peculiarity that would justify the selection, because it consists of five independent scenes, a climax that prepares the last one: the duel between Eteocles and Polynices. In the main part of the work there are the information required in traditional commentary, according to the most recent settings; on the other hand, the introduction analyzes individual scenes more widely, in relation to the problems of the poem and the greek-latin tradition. Il progetto nasce dalla necessità di aggiornare il commento al libro XI della Tebaide, pubblicato da Paola Venini nel 1970, alla luce delle nuove tendenze della critica staziana. La sezione oggetto del lavoro (vv. 315-579) ha una peculiarità tale da giustificare il taglio, in quanto costituita da cinque sequenze autonome che preparano in climax il duello tra Eteocle e Polinice, ultima scena contemplata dal commento. Al corpo del lavoro sono riservate le informazioni richieste al commento tradizionale secondo le impostazioni più recenti, mentre l’introduzione si propone di analizzare in maniera più ampia ed organica le singole scene in rapporto alle problematiche del poema e della tradizione greco-latina.
