Abstract: | Following the chronological timeline of De Sanctis’s articles in Turin magazines and daily newspapers during his exile (1853-1856), this essay aims at contextualizing said articles in the cultural, social and political frame within which they were written. It also looks to show the main peculiarities they share: what urged him to write them, his argumentative character, academic background and European mindframe and, above all, the already-recognizable fullness and maturity of his critical approach. |
