Abstract: The essay constitutes a first approach to a research project. It focuses on a problem related to an analysis of Andrea Perrucci’s treatise Dell’arte rappresentativa premeditata, ed all’improvviso (1699). In this book concerning theatre poetics a new feeling of theatre emerges, which causes a shift to autobiography, intended as a way of transmitting a stage experience which cannot be expressed in theory and yet is essential in the actor’s education, as well as for every practitioner. This tendency establishes itself within the Italian theatre, especially in the dialectal world. Talking about oneself is the only way which the wisdom derived from a long lasting work on stage has in order to survive and pass memories on to the following generations. An actor’s career and practical issues reveal thus artistic choices, expressive matters, working methods; we have many biographies, which should be read – in accordance with what we now do with Perrucci’s text – as hidden poetics.
