Abstract: Nel maggio 1950 Augusto Monti pubblica su «Il Ponte» il racconto Sotto la betulla dedicato a Cesare Pavese. L’articolo individua e analizza personaggi e situazioni pavesiani che Monti sviluppa secondo il proprio ottimismo. Viene anche ricostruito il rapporto tra Pavese e Monti, leggendo Sotto la betulla come un altro capitolo del loro dibattito tra impegno e arte.
In May 1950, Augusto Monti publishes in «Il Ponte» the short story Sotto la betulla dedicated to Cesare Pavese. The article identifies and analyses Pavese’s characters and situations, that Monti develops according to his personal optimism. The relationship between Pavese and Monti is also reconstructed, interpreting Sotto la betulla as another chapter in their debate between engagement and art.
