La violencia de género contra las mujeres: un fenómeno glo-bal en tiempos de pandemia. Los casos de Italia y España
Abstract
Gender-based violence against women (GBVAW) is a deep-rooted social phenomenon that is at its critical moment since ever, and must be ad-dressed globally. This article focuses on the issue of gender-based vio-lence against women during the first months of the COVID-19 pandemic (March-October 2020) and compares the cases of Italy and Spain. The research adopts a methodology of paralleling similar cases based on a careful reconstruction of events and an assessment of the level of gov-ernment responsiveness to the GBVAW. Indeed, between March and October 2020, the differences between the two Mediterranean countries have been quite evident. The Spanish government presented practical measures and guidelines to address GBVAW, whereas the Italian govern-ment, as it often happens, decided to quietly inform instead of presenting specific measures to contrast GBVAW.
