Claims that are hastily classified as acts that want to erase history and memory are actually an opportunity to reflect on our public space and public memory. They run the risk of being instrumentalised by a kind of memorial populism that deprives them of their communicative power. They do not, in fact, invite us to erase, but rather to broaden our view on the past. Public authorities have the difficult task of taking up the challenge, managing the conflict that these claims open up and proposing paths of memorial re-semantisation and re-contextualisation. These actions, rather than choosing between maintaining the status quo and removal, give space to a third possibility: telling history and constructing memory with new words. More correctit_IT
