The migration crisis and terrorist attacks committed in several Member States have shown that in order to address the challenges of migration, terrorism and crime, it is essential to invest in the improvement of the information management systems used in border controls. Until now, these were strictly separated, fragmented and disconnected. For this reason, the European Union has recently approved a legislative framework to guarantee its interoperability. An initiative that tries to prevent, in a more effective way, possible terrorist threats and crimes related to migration – such as human trafficking – but which, at the same time, must respect data protection and the right to the privacy of those people who cross our bordersit_IT
