Abstract: The aim of this contribution is to enhance, through the life stories of the elderly inhabitants of the Gargano, the individual and collective memory of the artisanal crafts typical of those lands, now disused, and of the cultural traditions connected to the “knowledge of the hand”, an expression of the intelligence and creativity of the elderly population, which has always been a precious intellectual resource for building a history “from below”. More precisely, historical-educational research started fifteen years ago and now proposed again because it is always current, which aimed to protect elderly knowledge, therefore the material and immaterial cultural heritage, as a tool for intergenerational exchange, will be presented. The activities, launched by the University of Foggia in collaboration with the Gargano Park Authority, involved elderly people from the Capitanata area, researchers from the University of Foggia and students from secondary schools in the Foggia province.
