In this research article, the “construction of a new Spain” is analyzed through a qualitative methodology through the reflections of the Basque pedagogue María de Maeztu who, in the three books she published, describes the interesting ideological evolution of a woman with an exceptional cultural preparation for the time. She was educated in a liberal and cosmopolitan context, animated by the Institución Libre de Enseñanza, and she evolves after the military pronouncement towards a conservative Catholic ideology, but ideologically far from Francoism. Her premature death does not allow a possible further evolution that, however, perhaps can be glimpsed in her latest writings and that would possibly lead her to reconsider the cultural value of her youth years, also in an educational key towards young generations.it_IT
