This study explores Jewish travel literature from the twelfth to the nineteenth century, with a focus on depictions of Jerusalem. Combining distant and close reading methods, it analyses content categories and patterns to uncover recurring themes in the portrayal of the city. Utilizing digital tools such as CATMA, Voyant, and Dicta, the study applies computational techniques to generate and examine categories that would be difficult to identify manually. Through tagging and processing, the analysis offers a nuanced view of how Jerusalem has been represented across centuries, providing a unique historical perspective through digital humanities methods.
